Dear Mr. Reed:
\JI am sending you listings of three different simplified versions of a chess
program, one is in BLS, the second is a translation into SAIL and the third is an
expanded version of the second. Perhaps one of these will meet your needs.
As you will note, these are all derived from a program that was written
originally by Jim Gillogly at CMU.
If you would like to have one of these programs in machine readable form, we
might even be able to send you this. We would have to explore the problems of
compatability and we would want you to send us a DEC tape or perhaps a
magnetic tape on which to transcribe the text. My guess is that you will have
to rewrite the code extensively because of the difference in the the word
lengths on the two machines. If this is so, the machine readable copy would
be of little value.
As there is no mechanism by which we could accept payment for these programs,
my only request would be that you keep us informed of your progress and send
us a copy of your code if and when you get it in running form.\.

Arthur L. Samuel
